Custom Joinery Room Transformation | Intero Project Showcase
A Room Reimagined: From Forgotten Space to Show-Stopping Feature.
Some rooms in a home serve a purpose from day one—others need a little help finding their identity. For our client at this recent Intero project, there was one such room: previously empty, often walked past without a second glance. But that’s no longer the case. Today, it’s the heart of admiration—a custom joinery installation that has completely transformed not just the room, but how the client and her family use and experience it. And it all started with a desire to make the space feel warm, personal, and proudly unique.
The client came to Intero wanting to avoid the “dead room” feeling. Her goal was to make the space functional but with a sense of homeliness—a place that didn’t just fade into the background. From the start, she was clear: if we were going custom, it had to feel custom. “Make it stand out,” she said in her testimonial. “Don’t go with the standard whites. Make it yours.”

That philosophy guided every part of the design. The cabinetry was finished in a striking Vintage Blue 2PAC, running across all surfaces including the benchtops. We used a Settler door profile to add a touch of traditional charm, blending beautifully with the soft sheen of Momo antique brass handles. The soft-close experience came courtesy of Hettich hardware, ensuring every drawer and door felt as premium as it looked.
A major talking point during the design phase was the integrated LED lighting. The client initially hesitated—worried it might feel too bold or overpower the room’s warmth. But once the installation was complete, she was speechless. The lighting not only highlighted every shelf and panel but elevated the entire room’s presence. What was once forgotten is now unforgettable.

The joinery wraps around the walls in a L-shape, creating the perfect environment for books, keepsakes, and seasonal styling. Already, the client is planning her Christmas display—complete with decorations, family heirlooms, and holiday wine tucked neatly into the newly integrated wine rack. The wine cellar addition brought both functionality and flair, giving her a dedicated space to showcase her collection with pride. This project is a testament to what considered design can do. It’s not just cabinetry—it’s an emotional transformation. A room that once had no purpose now invites people in. It’s admired, it’s used, it’s lived in. And for this client, it’s just the beginning. Her next adventure with Intero? A custom outdoor alfresco space, just in time for summer entertaining.
Every home has spaces waiting to shine. With thoughtful design, expert craftsmanship, and the right materials, even the most overlooked rooms can become the centrepiece. This project proves it.
